Christmas wheat

In Croatia the custom to plant wheat before christmas, a Christian symbol of blessing the harvest. It is usaly done on St. Barbara Day(December 4) or St. Lucy(December 13). Christmas wheat is the most traditional decoration in Croatia for festive table and it brings the festive atmosphere in your home.

Put the wheat seed in a bowl to the maximum thickness of 2 cm. Below you can put soil, cotton wool, cardboard or something what will keep moisture for better germination. Moisturizing seeds is necessary daily. Place the bowl in a warm place. Wheat sprouts start to appear after 3-4 days. 2-3 days after germination of wheat put it in a bright place. This is the way to get a thick and beautiful green wheat. Croatian custom says that how your weet looks for Christmas, so shall the next year successful int the same way.
